Head and Brain Injuries

Representing Clients with Traumatic Brain Injuries

Mark Anthony Gager — a West Melbourne, Florida, Personal Injury Lawyer

Because the brain is such a complex organ, brain injury litigation comprises a very specialized field of law. Individuals with brain injuries are usually changed forever. Without a significant understanding of how the brain works, it may be impossible for an attorney to show the extent to which traumatic brain injuries (TBI) hinder their day-to-day activities.

Are you suffering from a concussion after a car accident? Do not delay — seek medical attention right away and help from an experienced attorney to obtain the compensation you need and deserve. Contact us today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Detailed Understanding of Traumatic Brain Injuries

Attorney Mark Anthony Gager is a member of the National Head Injury Foundation and he has extensive experience working with brain-injured individuals. With more than 25 years of experience in personal injury, he has strong technical knowledge, and trial skills necessary to help you recover the compensation you need.

Brain injuries are classified within three different categories — mild, moderate, and severe:

  • Mild – An individual with a mild brain injury may look and seem fine on first glance. But behavioral changes affecting mood, temperament, and aggression can make it difficult to socially interact. It can also dangerously impair that person's judgment.
  • Moderate – Moderate brain injuries can cause memory deficits, behavior deficits (leading to bizarre or "unacceptable" social behavior), and possible motor function impairment including speech problems.
  • Severe – Severely injured individuals experience drastically reduced intellectual functioning and are often in a vegetative state. Individuals with severe brain injuries are generally unable to function productively or live independently.

Closed Head Injuries (CHI) and Closed Head Trauma

After suffering serious head trauma, it may not be immediately apparent that the brain is injured — especially if the head isn't bleeding and if the skull is intact. Even though the skull is not damaged, however, the brain is still vulnerable. It essentially The brain floats in fluid inside the skull, meaning it can bounce and knock against the walls of the skull.

In addition, the skull interior is not smooth like the exterior; there are ridges and structures shaped somewhat like stalactites. Although these structures usually serve to hold the brain in place, they can actually scrape or puncture the brain during severe head trauma and they cause many closed head injuries.
